Proper short format at Bramham 4S with Jonelle and Senor Crocodillo (Diego) doing their test today and then showjumping tomorrow morning and cross country tomorrow afternoon in the lovely Bramham Park in Yorkshire.
As June began so summer instantly disappeared and I think it has rained very single day of the month so far alongside gusty winds so the grass arena has definitely got stickier as the competition has progressed. The team have added sand to the boggiest spots but it takes a horse with good balance to cope and there has been so much rain at Bramham this week!
Diego did a good job of hiding his nerves in the arena. He is rock solid in the contact in training but can get a bit inconsistent at the start of the test which is his way of showing a bit of tension. No mistakes though and some really solid work in not the nicest of conditions for a 32.4 which at the time he went was just a couple of marks off the lead, three quarters of the way through two days of dressage.
Some fancy work this afternoon saw Jesse Campbell and Speedwell take the lead on 25, slotting just ahead of Tom McEwen and JL Dublin on 26. Just 5 horses scored sub 30 in a class where the judging was certainly on the tough side.
